Hello again to all,
I have posted on this subject before because i must have the most economical 156 ever produced.
My 91,000 miles 2002 1.8 Turismo (manual) is showing almost 38mpg driving to and from work and last Sunday afternoon i reset the trip computer etc and went out for a drive in the countryside (including a spin through Rugby town centre on the way) and i covered over 70 miles and on my return at home the OBC was showing 42.7 mpg. If the computer was more than a little way out i would know, believe me.
My excellent Alfa Romeo must also be the most reliable 156 ever produced because i contacted the previous owner;
(04/2004 and just 18,000 miles to 08/2007 and 89,500 miles)
and he assures me that under his ownership nothing at all went wrong with the car whatsoever, it was just Alfa Independant Dealer serviced at the correct mileage and i have all the reciepts from new and everything is just service items to prove this. Even the cambelt and tensioners plus variator were not changed until 60,300 miles (3 and a half years)
He only part exchanged the car at Coventry Subaru because they offered him a good p/x deal and he fancied a change after over 3 years ownership.
To be honest, some of the forum posts on Alfa Owner.com about cambelt failure (which also knackers the engine making it even more expensive to repair) , selespeed problems, electrical, MAF, brakes etc, etc make pretty disturbing reading.
