Tech war - Ferdi vs Alfanatic
Well, ok, it's hardly a war... but... a few months ago, I broke down up North and Ferdi at Lytham St. Annes was the closest Alfa specialist, so he did £2600 worth of work on my 156 Sele, including a new actuator. Subsequently, my Sele system ran out of fluid. Ken at Alfanatic topped it up and checked for any obvious leaks but found none. He suggested the (new) actuator could be leaking into the gearbox. The car went back to Ferdi (a 500 mile round trip for me). He had the front wheel off and checked for leaks and found none. He categorically stated that it is 'impossible' for the actuator to leak into the gearbox and the only hypothosis he could offer was an airlock in the system had worked its way free and caused the drop in fluid. Clearly I've got to have another word with Ferdi because there must be a leak somewhere for my Selespeed resevoir to run empty again. If any of you guys KNOW about Selespeeds, especially on a 2001 156 and can offer any wisdom, please bring it on.
By the way, there are a couple of Alfa owners who wave at my 156 around the Farnborough Hampshire area. My car is a dark metallic red with aftermarket alloys. One of you is a white Alfa 166, the other I don't know because you waved at my wife, who came back and told me that a 'sad' Alfa driver waved at her. She doesn't get it. Anyway - hi whoever you are!
