help with car alfa 156

hi guys, im new to this forum so im not sure if anyone has already posted the this question..but here goes.

basically i have recently bought a alfa 156(W reg) and its due for a service as its done about 62k. i am having a problem when i am in 1st and 2nd gear that the car seems to jerk a bit.
i need give a considerable amount of gas in order to prevent the jerks...however it just seems that i'm stressing the engine. worst part is when i'm in traffic.
has anyone else had this problem and any idea's what the problem could be?

Re: help with car alfa 156

Nil, is yours the 2.5 V6 mate? As alot of us with the V6 engines have experienced the same, something to do with the amount of power not being able to transfer easily in lower gears and lower speeds.

If however you have a 1.8 or 2.0 then something isn't quite right.

Can anyone else shed some better light on this?

Re: help with car alfa 156

We need a bit more info on the jerkyness, it could be a MAF problem or a clutch problem depending on a few factors.

Re: help with car alfa 156

May just be the throttle actuator is a TS.

Try the throttle reset trick a couple of times, but if that doesn't work you may need to get the actuator reset on a diagnostic system

Tell us more about engine, year, etc nil21 and we should be able to get closer to the problem.

Re: help with car alfa 156

Does the car rev freely without drive ?
If it does , does the clutch take up the bite close to the floor and does it only take up drive if you give i more revs?///
From a stationary point enge 4th and bring out the clutch with moderate revs and see if the engine stalls, if it doesn't and revs on with your clutc full engaged then yu need a new clutch!
