156 JTD 8v-16v swap

I have been offered a very nice 2005 156 sportwagon in vgc etc etc. I am very tempted but its the 8v engine and I have always driven the 16v variant and am concerned that I will be annoyed by the lack in power.

I have done a quick search but cannot find anything so ask the question is a 16v a straight swap? I assume I will need the ecu and probably the loom as well. Anyone tried it or is it simpler just to get a remap?

It's possible but really not worth the effort. These cars are worth 2000 at best now! The 8V is arguably the better engine given the age of the car and potential problems. Just buy a different one if you're desperate for the 16V or live with the 8V. On paper the power difference looks like it would be a problem but I think the 8v still pulls ok. Maybe a remap would close the gap sufficiently?
