156 2.4JTD Electrical Fault

I've had my Alfa 156 2.4JTD for nearly 2 years now (2002 reg). Since about 6 months after buying it I've had a recurring electrical fault whereby if I leave the car in the drive for a few days the battery is flat whan I come to it. Since I drive an hour each way to work I am presuming it is charging more than it is draining normally but when I leave it standing for a few days it drains the battery. I've checked the terminal connections on the battery and they're fine. I have had the RAC out in the past and they checked that the Alternator is charging properley and they said it was.

The symptoms when I try to start it are that the speedo bounces up and down and the dash lights flicker. Once I've taken the key out theres a whole wurring thing going on behind the dash (Aircon vents?).

Also, at Traffic lights while idling I notice that the headlights dim a bit.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated!!! Didn't want to get an Auto Electrician out without having any idea as it feels like it will just be a blank cheque for him!

Re: 156 2.4JTD Electrical Fault

Not sure if this is of any help to you but I had the EXACT same issues as you describe - its kind of like a disco inside the car ith all those lights flicking on and off!
I didn't think it was my batery either as it looked fine and the indicator said so - it was lying! All I had to do to fix the issue was buy a new battery. Granted it wasn't cheap but I don't care as the car now starts again no problem and the battery is NEVER flat.
(My car is the same year and engine as yours).
I would say that you should get the battery checked all the same as thats all it was with mine.
