no no no, not me!
noticed tonight that in certain situations my alfa is kicking out quite a bit of crap from the exhaust. ill try and explain a bit better...
i had been on the motorway in traffic, mostly crawling at less than 20mph for lets argue 2 hours, i was going insane! at the end of the traffic, in 2nd gear i put my foot to the floor and took her to well over 7000rpm and noticed a haze behind me... this i can only presume was some form of smoke. trying to recreate this i put my foot down in 5th, nothing, slowed a little and into 4th, booted it, nothing. ok i thought, 3rd should do it. no, nothing. i then figured ah bugger it, shes driving fine so carry on.
a little later, after maybe 45 miles of plodding at 70 on cruise i hit some roadworks, 40mph for 5 miles, coming out of it in 2nd from about 25mph i floored it and noticed once again a small haze behind me.
now, i recall something very similar on my dads jaguar where there was somesort of valve on the exhaust system that was ment to regulate the release of crap, but as far as i know the petrols do NOT have such device so im now thinking, is it possible one of the catlytic converters is failing, allowing a buildup of crap that is being forced out on 'booting'... either this of there is something wrong with the engine... shes not using excessive oil (for an alfa), she drives at aprox 75c on the motorway, no more than 90c when having some fun and there is no knocks, roughness etc... in fact, i dont remember her ever running so sweet.
so can anyone suggest something here? im stumped!
i am also, tomorrow or sunday, going to invest in some sort of oil additive that is designed to stop minor leaks, reseal slightly worn seals etc... can anyone recommend a GOOD product for doing such please?
