rear window demister

Hello all - with the cold weather etc, I have noticed that the rear window demister doesnt work at all.
When the button is pressed i can hear a 'click' from the dash (presumably the relay). The wing mirrors do work/demist.
All fuses appear to be ok.
Also, the light in the boot doesn't work - not sure if connected.

Any help/advice would be most appreciated, as always.

Fuse F40 should be the rear screen.....
Replace it just in case, it's not always obvious if they're blown....

If fuse and relay are ok, investigate the mass of wires held up behind the accelerator pedal. I had a wire break here and stop the rear demister working. I think pedal movement must have been rubbing the wires over a long period of time. Took alot to track it down but it's likely other 156 have failed in the same place. Just have a look for anything that looks a bit worn. Give it a jiggle.
Also visually check the wires in the window are continuous. The circuit continuity in the window can be checked at the rear window on the drivers side with a meter but don't try and remove the rear pillar air bag unless you know what you are doing.
Have you checked the bulb for the boot. I can't see a connection between the 2 fails unless the accelerator tangle of wires has the boot light feed somewhere nearby.
Good luck.

There is also the possibility of there being a break in the wires into the tailgate, as they flex on opening/closing they can break.
