Help - 156 SW electrical problem
I seem to have an electrical problem on the 156 Sportwagon.
I was looking for a connection to the reversing lights to fit parking sensors. Didn't get them fitted, although I did find the live wire in the harness coming down the rear drivers side pillar. Was searching for somewhere to feed the wires through from the boot to behind the bumper and I think I seem to have damaged some wiring somewhere.
With the boot open, the courtesy lights in the boot and on the tailgate are flickering, and the top brake light if you press the pedal.
With the boot closed, the courtesy lights go out, and the brake light works ok, BUT:
If you put the rear fogs on, only the driver side works ok, the passenger side is dim, and both reversing lights come on dim. Also, the top brake light stops working.
If you put it in reverse, only the driver side reversing light comes on, and the top brake light stops working.
The rear wiper has power to it, but not enough to get it moving.
If I disconnect either side fogs and reversing lights, the top brake light stops working, but it does stop the courtesy lights from flickering.
I'm suspecting there's a short somewhere in the passenger side harness between the connector and the pillar, but can't see anything.
Everything was working fine before I got my grubby mits in there, so it has to be something I've dislodged somewhere, but I can't see anything which looks wrong.
Has anyone else had anything similar and been able to find what the problem is? I know I'm probably going to have to find an auto electrician somewhere, but I'd really welcome some helpful advice - anything I should check myself before forking out for someone else to do it?
