Happy to help
if you could maybe report back & let us know how well it works? I'll probably end up getting one for myself at some point.
if it works its a relatively easy and inexpensive way to the GT ICE up to date....I do like the idea of an all singing and dancing double din ,but my feeling is by the time you have found and fitted the right Unit, fascia and SWC harness you are in for at least £300 and that is with a cheap unit...you need to spend closer to over £300 on the unit so its closer to £400 total spend in the end.
and the fitting may not be a fun day out.
I would rather spend that on stuff to make it handle better or go faster. £400 is a refurbed set of injectors or an FMIC ..nearly pays for a hybrid rebuild on the turbo or another re-map on a RR.
£89 is dinner out with the Mrs....
I was considering making one...I am ok with electrics having trained as a guitar maker in my youth.
bluetooth receiver with a mini jack out...
simply wire the power behind the dash off the lighter socket as power to this is cut when the engine goes off it will not drain any battery, for the mic you can splice it on from the output wire from the bluetooth unit and run it again behind the dash so it comes up to be fixed to the front console.
cost of bluetooth receiver around £10, cost of small Mic, around the same.
couple of hours of faffing...if you plug into the same input on the back of the blaupunkt that this unit is designed to then you keep all of the steering wheel control as well.
phone automatically cuts music when a call is made or received. and in fact you could even do it without the mic, making it really easy to do, IF you can find a way for the phone Mic to stay on with the bluetooth hands free enabled.
this is an OS issue and I may well pop on over to the android forums to see if it has been done...
also with a DAB app like tune in you can access DAB in the car without buying an expensive DAB headunit.
will let you gents know what I decide to do!
just bought this
plan to fit all the wires behind the dash and connect the power permanently from the lighter again route behind the dash..
cheap simple painless an the reviews are great, supports voice activation, siri etc and will also work with SWC, volume ill work for sure, track skip would be a bonus, won't know that till its in.
does exactly the same as the £108 unit really.
