If you want reliablity, buy a Honda or Toyota. Any other car is most likely going to give some grief... yes even the Germans, they just refuse to accept that they suffer issues too.
If it is a TS Check the service history thoroughly, while you cannot guarantee that the oil has been regularly checked between service, it shows some care has been taken. Even if the car looks great and drives well if the servicing has not been done to schedule, walk away there will be another. Alfa have admitted timing belts on TS engines now should be changed every 3 years or 36k miles, if that is adhered to you should be fine. If you can afford a V6 go for it, these engines are tried and trusted and will go on for donkeys years if looked after well.
An Alfa can be reliable if looked after and serviced, though things like selespeed seem to just add complication and more to go wrong in old age.
