Like the guys say, it would be a good time to replace the wishbones if they need it. The anti roll bar bushes can be replaced without removing the subframe but it would be easier if you did .I would recommend polybushes. I didn`t need to remove the subframe to get the gearbox out.
My 1.6Ti uses about a litre of oil every 1,000km. An Alfa dealer recommended an oil additive , he says it reduces the consumption.
I`ve bought it and am waiting until I need a litre top up. It`s thick and sticky stuff. The name is "Lucas heavy duty oil stabiliser"....its American. Can be used in gearboxes also.
Best of luck.................Dannyboy.
I saw your thread the other week. Fair play to you for taking that on yourself, you're a braver man than me. Hope the car is all good now.
Could try putting in 10w60 oil at next service? It's what's recommend for jts engines which are also known for using oil.
Might look into this or just buy a load of 10w40 when it's on offer!
The clutch actually gone, or just the slaves - could be a £100 fix.
Clutch was still okay but getting towards the end of it's life so needs to be changed. I don't fancy doing it again!
You got any pics of your GT?
It 's a 147, I've only got pictures from a while back before most of the mods went on.
Anyway, I went to see the mechanic today and he's given me a good ballpark figure to fix which I was happy with so I've given him the green light to get the clutch done and also both upper wishbones done.car should be ready Tuesday. I had a good look underneath as it was on the ramp and it looks pretty solid under there. A little bit of rust but not bad so will probably get it sealed next year when I finally replace the disks and pads.
I asked him if he was fitting genuine wishbones and he said he's not. He was ordering Birth ones. Has anyone had experience of them? He said he's fitted a few and they're good but cheaper than oem? What do you reckon?
