I bought a 147 jtd 16v extremely cheap a few months ago - 300 sovs for a pretty mint 06 facelift model. It had a problem whereas the gearstick would hardly move, the flywheel was rattling like crazy when you rested your foot on the clutch and the car would not go in to gear with the clutch pedal depressed.
The previous owner had implied that the flywheel had failed which I took at face value. Sourced a replacement 2nd user part and stripped the car down. The flywheel certainly was worn and had plenty of play! I also replaced the clutch with a new one and also a slave cylinder. The gearstick was stiff due to to the common "tophat bush" issue which I also fixed with replacements.
The car is back together, however it still has the same issue! When first back together the exact issue was there - rebled the clutch to ensure that wasn't the problem and it then went in to gear, albeit grinding all the time. Rebled the clutch and it is back to square one.
I'm not one to let these things beat me and I certainly want to fix the issue. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? The car will go in to gear fine with the engine switched off - with the engine on it is difficult to push in to gear (if not impossible) and the car does move slightly when pushing it in gear.
My first thought was that I had made a mistake in fitting the clutch! However with the fault being the same as prior to the repair I am not convinced. The clutch bearing has engaged in the plate, the plate is definitely in the right way, the pedal is lovely and soft as you would expect. The clutch arm is moving. I am at a loss!
Could this be a gearbox symptom, if so has anyone got a reasonably priced 6 speed available? And which other model ones fit?
