Clutch Slip JTD - Mapped Swedish cousin
Hello Alfa World!
I have searched this on yours/Vectra and Saab forums..all very helpful.
Car : Same engine - JTD / ZD19TH Saab 9-5 Tid Manual Estate (06) 100k covered- mapped to around 185bhp
Just notice that on hard acceleration, 3rd, 4th and even 5th gear it seems something is slipping in the drive train department. Now, I am pretty sure that it is not the wheels not being able to cope with the boost and thus spinning, just feels a bit strange. The sensation is a bit like when you quickly engage the clutch for a split second. After about 2 seconds it catches up with itself and all is fine.
I believe this is clutch slip.
However, I am unable to replicate this again. I did try today in 5th up a hill...and no slip and no spin either..and it has been rather wet here to say the least...new boots fitted 4 months ago as well...
To put this to bed............I would have thought if the clutch was slipping, it would be easy to replicate by slamming right foot to floor in 5th at say 40mph. Or similar in say 4th gear..........I mean, it either slips or it does not surely under certain conditions...it can't just come and go can it?.......having never had clutch slip before I have nothing to compare it to. Are these blighters intermittent?!
Have it booked in for 3 weeks time for new clutch, DMF and slave cylinder...bit of a financial burden..I guess on a car that has covered over 104k miles on the original clutch it is to be expected. Should the clutch failure be this gradual? Or is it catastrophic?!
Any help greatly appreciated!
