156 Selespeed not selecting gears
Hi to all the Alfissimos, I am trying to help a friend here.
He has a 2000 156 Selespeed. The gearbox has been checked, new clutch kit fitted and wiring checked by a reputable Alfa Romeo workshop. The vehicle was sent to our local Alfa Romeo Dealership (Mercedes Benz in my area) and the diagnosed an electrical error. It was fixed and some work done to the actuator. Cost of R13k!!! In SA that is 1/3 of the value of the vehicle. This was all done before the clutch replacement.
I connected my Multiecuscan application and checked for errors and calibrated the Selespeed, all done without errors. The problem is that the vehicle can select ALL gears while engine is not started. As soon as you start the engine it refuses to select gears. I adjust the clutch pin to 28.5mm but as soon as I start the engine and switch off again the reading goes to 27.2 or 27.4. I adjust it again to 28.5 and after starting up she goes back to 27.something.
This morning I used a crowbar to push the clutch in while the engine is started and then she selects gears. So my conclusion is that the clutch pin is not pushing the pressure plate in far enough to disengage the clutch plate.
Is there a service I can do to the actuator? An Alfa Mac once replaced 2 small O rings on one of my Selespeed actuator. He said that is about the only thing you can service on the actuator. Can anyone please give me some direction towards solving this problem and on how to service the actuator? And where these O rings are situated?
Thanking you all in advance.
