156 Selespeed issue

Hi all, I am new here as I have just purchased my first Alfa well 2 to be precise, a 147 manual 2.0 TS and a 156 Selespeed 2.0 TS, love them to bits, however.... I have a problem with the Selespeed, much of the time it runs O.K but has issues with dropping into neutral when stationary and sometimes doesn't select the next gear when under load etc. I have changed the oil to Tutela as the previous owner had used red atf and this hasn't improved anything. I have run diagnostic software and this shows no codes. I have checked the relay and that is O.K. the pump primes when opening the door. What I have noticed and I think maybe the problem is that if I switch to MAR the pump clicks, along with the relay, about every 4-5 seconds and sounds as if it is trying to pump up the accumulator. I think maybe the accumulator is stuffed, but it may be a pump problem. Or something else. Can anyone shed some light as I don't want to change bit for the sake of it. Thanks in advance.

If the pump is constantly priming then that does point to the accumulator.

With the ignition on but engine NOT running, you should be able to make a few gear changes before the pump runs again.

Yes, but it could be the pumps relay getting tierd or a faulty pressure switch.
Spray duck oil on the electrics, change ALL fluids, make sure the battery is good along with all connections.
Wait until the fault becomes worse, but only after you have done the above. That way you won't get any red herrings and spend cash on needless parts!
It's pointing to the accumulator, that may ruin the pump, change the lot?
