Heads-up! Alfa Romeo GT Cloverleaf 170bhp Q2 for sale
With the arrival of my new used 159 2.4JTDm TI Q4 Sportwagon, my beloved GT Cloverleaf will be coming up for sale. This is a preview / heads-up before I prepare a proper advert.
This is a '58 registration 170bhp factory-fitted Q2 variant in Atlantico blue metallic with sports suspension.
It has 97,500 miles on the clock, was last serviced by Bianco Auto Developments in Oct 2014 and has all new Goodyear EfficientGrip tyres on the original Cloverleaf 18" alloys. 16" winter alloys and tyres are being sold separately in the AO Classifieds. MOT until Feb 2016, I believe.
Bodywork is good - no dents / major scratches. Mechanicals seems sound. Clutch is heavy but there is no slippage even while accelerating hard - not that I do that very often. Gears works as they should and snick into place with satisfying smoothness.
It pulls brilliantly and is a comfortable tourer on the motorway and fun to drive on country A roads too. It is pleasantly responsive even though it is an older platform. Like most Alfas - it looks and feels special to be in.
- Full service history. Cambelt and waterpump done when I bought the car.
- Full black / dark grey leather seats
- Dual zone climate control
- Bose system with Blaupunkt USB / music player cable added (enables USB / music player connection)
- Alloy undertray fitted to provide good ground clearance and serious protection from various debris on my route.
- Silicone lower turbo pipe fitted as preventative measure to avoid the common failure of the original part being holed leading to Engine Fault (MCSF) light coming on and loss of power - it happened to my last GT (yes, I have owned two because I love them so much!)
- No modifications to ECU, remapping or other alterations.
It also has had a new oil cooler pipe fitted recently - the original having corroded and sprung a leak. All good now though - the other oil cooler pipe and oil cooler itself are sound. Thankfully absolutely no knock-on impact to engine - a little oil was lost and only needed to be topped up by the Alfa specialist in Kent who spotted the leak on their drive and fitted the pipe.
Having sat unused for the last fortnight, I found the battery is not retaining much charge as before that I drove it daily on my 25 mile each way commute to work and I never had any problems with a flat battery. It will need a new one and I will get round to ordering and fitting it.
Otherwise this car has been solid, reliable, fun and surprisingly versatile for carrying four adults comfortably plus a child in a car seat for shorter journeys but this is a real squeeze! It has three seatbelts in the back. The boot is a sizeable 320 litres (seats up) and the back seats fold (two / one seat split). Although it is a beautiful coupe, it conceals hatchback versatility. The parcel shelf is also removable.
The Q2 mechanical limited slip differential is wonderful on the sports suspension. Loss of grip in one of the driven wheels means that power is automatically transferred to the other. Pressing your foot down in tight corners will find the car pulling you around the corner in a very satisfying and assured way. This is not the electronic Q2 / ASR / VDC on Giuliettas, which kills power to recover traction. The mechanical limited slip diff maintains the power by directing it through the wheel with better grip unless you have no regardb for your personal safety in which case you will end up in a ditch or a tree anyway.
It also has the little red sport button behind the gear lever. This simply provides sharper throttle response - the 170bhp is always on tap with red button on or not.
I am looking for ~£5000 but I need to check valuation properly before I settle on an advertised price.
Any interest, please PM me or call 0794 1002525.
The car is in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. I am only available weekends as I commute daily to Crawley and travel regularly to France / other destinations.
Pictures will be taken once I get a rain-free day!
