P1173 Bank 1 count additive error
I am by no means very knowledgeable on Alfa Romeo 156 mechanical issues hence the reason for reaching out to the community.
My Alfa 156 2.0 twin spark 2001 model has been with the mechanic for three weeks now. He cannot figure out what the problem is and expects it is the ECU.
Bottom line is, the diagnostics test keeps giving error code P1173 Bank 1 count additive. See attached screenshot. Anyone able to assist as to what this means and what the problem may be?
The reason for taking my Alfa Romeo 156 to the mechanic's workshop is as follows:
* I can start the engine fine in first gear. Once the revs go beyond around 2500rpm the vehicle would shake and lose power as if it is a fuel injection issue but mechanic beliefs it may be ECU related. I have spoken to two mechanics and they have said it is extremely rare that an ECU needs to be replaced.
* I am able to change gears all the way up to 5th gear, with each higher gear change the loss of power issue would start happening at slightly higher revs, for example in 5th gear I can drive my Alfa at about 2900rpm before it starts shaking and loses power. The term the mechanic is using for the issue is "hunting"
The vehicle now has approx 100,000km (62,500miles) on the clock and all spark plugs have just been replaced.
The mechanic has tested the fuel pressure which is running at 300kpa and has also used another air mass meter but with no success in resolving the problem.
I would really appreciate your help as to how to proceed in resolving this issue.
