ELM 327 Bluetooth - help needed please
Recently I bought my first smart phone (yeah I held out a lo-o-o-o-ong time didn't I) so I got one of those ELM 327 bluetooth interfaces to get some live data from the car onto my handset - it just looks so cool.
I suspect the device is faulty though - so I'm looking for input from anybody who has used one of these to confirm this (or put me on the right track if I'm just being inept).
I put the interface into the port and the telltale lights light up. I connected it to the Bluetooth on my phone - no problem there.
I try to connect it to the app (I'm trying out "Hobdrive" free version first - I may try others as well later but as my phone is Windows 8.1 my options are limited as yet).
Before I get Hobdrive connected my wife needs a lift so I take her.
Now for the problem when I drive the car with the interface in place none of the dials (speedo, fuel, rev counter and temperature) are working they are all stationary at zero. And the row of three warning lights across the middle of the rev counter for the braking system (ABS, EBD and VDC I think) are all lit.
The car seems to drive fine (but I didn't check out the operation of the brakes electronic aids - the pedal worked fine and the car stopped OK) When I removed the adapter the dashboard went back to normal.
I reckon this must be a faulty unit and I will be contacting the vendor (eBay - UK based thankfully). But has anybody else experienced anything like this - more info or opinion gratefully received.
