156 JTS Mods and Maintenance

New to owning a JTS 156 and would like to see what other thoughts are on some basic mods.

My initial thoughts was

1. Brakes Upgrade
2. Suspension Upgrade (shocks and springs)
3. Strut Bar (Front Only)
4. Exhaust Upgrade (Some Thing that gives a nice sound nothing too loud)

recommended part numbers for above would be great.

1. Sound System
2. New Speakers
3. Low Profile Sub
4. Super Clean

1. New Badges (Cant have faded Afla Badges now can we)
2. Wanna do something with the lights maybe LED/ HID
3. Cut and Polish

Also As the car is 2nd hand a complete maintenance is my goal.

1. Engine Flush, Oil Change, Filter Change
2. Gearbox Oil Change (Its a selespeed be interested on this one never done it before)
3. Cambelt and Water Pump Change ( Gonna wait a couple weeks on this one)
4. Radiator Fluid Flush and Change.
5. Spark Plug Change
6. Air Filter Change ( Some reason this looks like a bit of work)

Thoughts Guys????

Also I notice there is a lack of DIY guides out there for Alfa's so if enough people are interested I am happy to make a few guides while I do the above. Just let me know

Gearbox oil change - probably a good idea if you have no history of it being done. Sele makes no difference at all, you just drain it from the bottom and fill it till it reaches the fill plug like most gearboxes. Drain plug is a little tricky to get to, you need a cut down 12mm allen key. Fill plug on front of box casing, simple. Just make sure you get the right oil.

Air filter is a bit tricky in that it's 20 mins work not 5 mins like some cars. Take the main inlet hose off the MAF and push it away to one side. Disconnect the wiring plug to the MAF. Unbolt the relay holder off the front of the battery tray and push that away too. Then you just need to undo the 3 screws that hold the airbox lid on. These can rust or sieze or strip but being in Aus yours will hopefully be fine. Then just wiggle the airbox lid out, pull out the old filter, vacuum any rubbish out of the bottom of the airbox, and refit everything. Easy.

Cambelt and associated gubbins pretty straightforward, if long winded. Spark plugs only need changing every 100,000km and they're not cheap so don't rush into that.

Sounds like a good plan for the car

Have a look on the download sites for the elearn software for the 156. Its pretty comprehensive on the how to side of things and has helped me out with me JTDm on more than one occasion. If you can find it let me know and will try and send you a copy.

The one thing i have learned from working on these cars is patience!! nothing is ever as straightforward as it should be and they can be frustrating at times but worth it when you get it back driving

Have fun!!
