156 Sportwagon 1.6 cambelt, bent valves
Well I have only had my Alfa 156 less than a week and as it was a private sale with no record of a recent cambelt, I decided to have a new one fitted. Today I took the car to the Italian car specialist I have always used for my Fiat Coupe with no problems. When I arrived to collect it this evening, the car was not ready, so I had to wait, and could hear the car being worked on. Imagine my horror when the car was started up and a horrible graunching sound came from the engine. It was a trainee working on it, and he did not adjust the timing correctly and there is a suspected bent valve or two. The garage owner says he will take the head off tomorrow and put everything right free of charge, and I am grateful for his honesty, but I am wondering, could this have caused any other engine damage, and should he fit a new head gasket also?
