GT boot struts, how powerful are they?

How powerful should the GT boot struts be? My boot stays open fine but when I release the boot, the boot stays in position to be lifter manually. It seems to me like it might lift a little by itself but only because I am trying to get my fingers in the gap just under the boot (pretty much none existent). Am I missing something or is it that the boot is just like that?

I'm sure the release system is the same as the 147. It's not designed to raise open as such, the 'pop' release simply takes away the need for a switch on the boot.

correct, it's not designed to raise by itself. some people have made them so they do, but just replacing the boot struts doesn't work. Due to their location the force required means that you'd really struggle to then re-close the boot so you have to relocate the strut... it's really more effort than it's worth basically

Not seen a self lifter on a Gt , but someone on this forum has engineered one on a Mito.
I've fitted a self lifter for my wife's Mazda MX5 only 30, simple job but not so simple for our cars!
Once you "pop" the boot the two black sprung openers should lift the lid by about a half an inch, but that's it.

They can get stuck in.
So check those if your boot/tailgate doesn't "pop".
