147 1.6 ts and a 6 speed gearbox
Last day I decided to take for a drive my wife's 147 1.6 ts (model of 2004, remaped in the past, from 120 hp to 129 hp). Although I drive an 166 2.5 V6 24v, I was impressed with the sweetness and ballance of the 147. Soft but very accurate in corners, better braking, no aerodynamic noises or vibrations on high revving and I must confess that I pushed on the highway till I reached 210 km/h and kept the speed from 170 to 190 Km/h for a destination of about 80 km. Despite the 4 cyl unit, the engine still seems capable and the only negative I find is some lack of torque bellow 3.000 rpm where a giulietta (benzina or diesel), for example, gains from the use of turbo. The other small fault I found is that for a car with no turbocharging and relativelly small displacement of cylinders, in my opinion, it should have a 6 speed gearbox. This because on the one side 120 or 129 hp can cope with one more higher gear and the driver will benefit on highway cruising (lower revs on normal cruising or higher final speed when pushing) and on the other hand in low revving the driver should gain from the "shortened" gear retios due to the 6 front ratios gearbox. So I wonder, is there some possibility to put a 6 speed gearbox on the 147 ts or the better choice to buy a 2.0 ts and solve them all?????????
