The only problem with heating it up is that you may damage the case hardening on the camshaft, especially as you need to get quite hot to weaken loctite. (A company I used to work for used to cure it at 100șC as it cures faster) you would probably need over 150șC to weaken it.
I have unscrewed a few variators now and have never needed to warm one up, just hold the cam between 2 bits of wood and make a tool to unscew the variator itself.
