Also budget and consider having the swirl flaps removed..On the 2006 they are metal and remove themselves easily, going walkies in your engine. Its a poor design and can damage the engine internally not to mention cause your turbo to grenade itself oh and also takes out your front cat..Ask me how i know.
"Autolusso" are doing an awesome deal for this swirl flap delete at the moment.
Consider the chassis can have issues at this age..Wishbone creaks etc. This car is transformed with a decent chassis setup. The oem suspension is very average to put it mildly. There are some great benefits to replacing the standard badly matched factory springs and dampers with uprated dampers and springs, and give you much better ride dynamics and quality. Also the Eibach ARB kit is a game changer.
If you are considering remapping then as precaution silicone upper and lower boost hoses can be fitted. The oem hoses are also a known weak spot, when the rubber gets old and damp. Again Autolusso can supply these.
Also consider keeping a spare clutch pedal pin in the car. These tend to let go at the worse possible moment, when the metal gets old and fatigued. I would replace it with a new pin and keep the old one as a standby..Easy job to fit.
Also it really pays to have the car properly under sealed. As the factory didn't bother to do a good job of this..
When test driving the GT JTD pay attention to how heavy the clutch is. Some are heavier in action than others. And this does take away some of the driving fun. My old 2004 GT was horrendous for this.. And was the only thing that worried me having another. I need not have worried as my 2010 cloverleaf has the lightest smoothest clutch action and gear change. But just noteworthy for you when maybe trying prospective cars.
Also have a look at the sills, many cars have been jacked up in the wrong place, caving in the lovely lower bertone sills.
The GT is an awesome machine. And so worthy of a bit of tlc and investment..Ok i have taken this concept further than most..;-) But they have so much hidden unlocked potential. I am on my second GT. I missed my old modified GT the day i sold it... It was only a matter of time before i got another one.
