Selespeed BIG connector
I have an intermittent failure to engage forward gears. I am 99% sure it's the big connector, because when I grasped it and pushed it home, the problem went away.
The connector itself is a bit grimy and wasn't 'tethered' (if that's the right term), so I would like to disconnect it, give it all a good clean and put it back where it's meant to go.
I tried a little persuasion, but didn't want to force it, and as I was at the side of the road, decided the fact it was working was enough for now.
Is there some sort of latch on the connector and if so, what sort? It's a bit dark right now, where I have the car parked, and it's blowing a gale and wet, so I am less inclined to dig around with a torch and find the unlatching method.
Tomorrow is another sunny day (we hope) and I will give it a good going over.
So, if someone can tell me how to pull it apart and if there is a recommended cleaning/lubrication product, I will attack it with the requisite components and knowledge tomorrow.
If there isn't anything specifically recommended, I will use contact cleaner/dielectric lubricant.
If theres any sort of underbonnet diagrams for the 147, I would appreciate a link. I've only had the car since Monday and while it ran perfectly on the test drive and on the 800km drive home, since I got here it's been a bit iffy. I suspect the rough roads and wet weather on the long drive conspired to loosen things up a little. The previous owner never really left the city.
It's a 2004 2.0TS Selespeed 3-door.
