147 "sloppy clunking" noise.

Hi, I've got a 147 1.6 twin spark as my daily which is a cracking little car if a bit under powered.
But recently it's developed a "sloppy clunking" noise when I pull away in 1st and I get the same in reverse but it doesn't do it in any other gear.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Check your CV joints. Inner and outer on both sides.

Do you hear any clicking when the car stand still in free? You could place it in first gear and then slowly release the clutch and see if you can make a stabil click by pressing and depressing clutch from stand still.

Good luck!

The sound is most likely worn front roll bar bushes, common on 156 & 147s.
