Re: Viewing 2.4 JTD Sportwagon. Advice/help please for 156 noob
2001 should be a 140bhp euro 3 with the garrett gt2256 turbo.
Should be on full booost at 1800rpm and pull like a train to over 4k.
The remap may well only give 165bhp if you put it on a rolling road, shouldn't black smoke really apart from spool up 15-1800rpm where they all tend to puff a bit, 2-3500rpm should be clean as a whistle out the tail pipe as the turbo is giving its best.
Make sure the turbo isn't noisy, other than hearing it spool up and dump when it closes the VNT's.
The KONI kit is a fantastic mod especially if its yellow shocks and blue springs, they will be top adjustable. These are very firm but hardly any roll in the corners, a lucky find.
I have a 2001 2.4 JTD veloce SW also, so ask any questions.
The veloce is the one to go for.
MPG 33-38 spirited driving, 46ish like every days a sunday.
Make sure the belt was done at 72k.
A clutch change would be ideal as this is very expensive to have done. Watch for clutch slip and don't be fobbed off with the power causing it, the standard clutch is the same as whats used in the 200bhp engine according to the main dealer, and that car won't be anywhere near 200bhp either, any slip will most likely be clutch wear.
If its kicking out high power you will get flywheel vibration between 2000-2500 rpm, the car will shudder and vibrate, especially noticable in 4th and 5th gear, this is caused when the cars are properly tuned and kicking out loads of power.
make sure it is the 140bhp and not the 136 as well, always call alfa and get them to check the VIN to clarify. the 140 has bigger turbo and is a bit more flexible powerband wise.
Also a lot more tunable.
If its located near a rolling road, see if you can get a run on it before buying, £30 and it'll soon show if theres any probs with turbo etc from powerband.
