Is it about avoiding brands?

I thought the higher the cca, the better.

I plonked a Bosch S4 096 in my 147, tight for space but does the job. Your 156 have the 1.9 or the 2.4 JTD?

Based on my experience with Bosch/Varta Silver batteries and my specialists experinece, unfortunately one to avoid now it seems

One specialist recommends Exide, the other Yuasa

As much as i dont like Haldrauds their batteries are good and have 2 / 3 and 4 year warranty .
The batteries are made by Varta who have been making batteries since the beginning of time

Well normally I would buy the cheapest unless someone has a story of woe to dissuade me.

IIRC the battery listed by Halfords for the 2.0TS 156 was a smaller physical size which meant the retaining strap did not fit correctly. It is worth making sure the width and height are the same for easier fitting.

I have had 6 years good service from a Heavy duty halfords battery, just replaced it with a silver Varta the specs are superb, worth every penny, you only get out what you put in.
