Re: Why Cant Everything Work Just Once???
if an engine has been stood for a while, every last scrap of oil will have drained into the sump. When starting them up again, especially if they start easily like most injected engines, you should disconnect the coilpacks so the engine doesnt fire, and crank it for three 20 second bursts, till the top end has been oiled up at cranking speed and not started up dry at fast idle, that will bugger the top end espec the variator as Alfa say oiling is critical to it not wearing down rapidly (take the plugs out too to be easy on the battery)
When its oiled up, then reconnect the coils and plugs and fire it up, letting it idle for a good minute without revving it.
Topping the oil level to the top mark should be done before ever cranking it, as thats the only true reading of whats in the sump.
