Brilliant am soaking the pulley as we speak, corrosion is bad you cannot see where the pulley joins the hub. thanks again for confirming the crank pulley hub bit does not have to be removed --my day just got a bit better at that point..!! I imagine you would need 3/4" drive sockets and a very long breaker bar for that..
Have already carefully marked everything up at TDC, on correct stroke, and yes there is a pin locating the crank pulley so no need to mark this. Will use cam locks on re-assembly -these camshafts do seem prone to rotate a bit once the belt is removed. (Just hope I have the correct cam locks, -mine very on cheap flee bay - now realise they were advertised to fit a far wider range of Alfa models than I suspect is actually possible. -May be lucky..
Hopefully my timing marks will show if they are correct or not.
The spring loaded timing belt tensioner thing worries me quite a lot... Think I should get a proper tensioning tool here -unless there is a way to set it up without?
