Possible MAF problems
Hi all, I have been searching the Internet for some answers and thought you lovely knowledgeable people might be the best to give me some advice!
So now I have finished trying to butter you up onto the problem I have....... I bought the car cheap the other week with the seller telling me it was in need of a Maf sensor (according to the diagnostic he had completed) but because I was getting it so cheap he would let me do the sensor myself. It ran fine for about a week and then the engine light came on and it started misfiring and seems down on power and the light flashes when I attempt to accelerate.
Ordered a new maf sensor which arrived today (a cheap eBay one which after doing some reading may not have been the way to go) but it is the wrong size as the pipe is bigger than what is on my car - a 51 plate 156 1.6 twin spark.
I have taken the sensor out of the housing and tried to clean it with isopropyl alcohol however the issue remains.
I will do my own diagnostic some time soon however I need some options to allow me to drive it for now so can you tell me if any of these will help or just cause more issues:
Disconnect the maf sensor and drive it unconnected.
Remove the sensor from the new unit and replace it in the old tubing - not sure if this will even work as the sensors could be different although they look the same.
Continue driving it with the engine light on and poor performance.
Realise I shouldn't have bought a cheap ***** and give my head a proper shake
I know I haven't given a lot of info but any help would be appreciated, always had ford's and fancied something different this time but am worried I have made a mistake....help please!!
