ok - not the plan. Love our Sele.... is that all that ECU manages? Surely its not just the Me 3.1 for the entire range of Selespeeds ? Is there an ECU that we can update for Selespeed
The part number for Selespeed ECU for CF2 and CF3 TS are different. I'm not so sure if they're interchangable. The ECU for JTS version is again a different part. The JTS version I'm quite sure is not compatible with the TS version.
So to change from ME3.1 to ME7.3.1 might require a different Selespeed ECU, not to mention the potential difference in all the wiring harnesses. Seems like too much trouble.
Convert a sele to manual? Bit drastic and complex plus I don't think you would be allowed to in some countries as laws are more strict.
This is really quite drastic. And you will miss out on the Selespeed system. Some people really like it despite all the problems that might occur. To do this the procedure I believe is straight forward if you can get the whole front half of a donor car because all the parts are present but it is a lot of work.
I think as a last resort you can consider changing the engine ECU. There are 3 options.
1. Change to a used ECU. This requires the ECU, the CODE box and the immobilizer chip in the key. You will need to dig out the CODE box behind the dash and replace it.
2. Change to a 'virgin' ECU. This ECU is not yet coded to the CODE box, so it is just plug and play. The first time the ECU is turned on, it will be coded to the CODE box. I have not seen a brand new ECU for sale though. So a 'virginized' second-hand ECU is more likely to be found.
3. Re-flash the existing ECU. Maybe this will work. I don't know if reflashing will overwrite the portion where the adaptive values are stored.
Thinking further, maybe getting an ECU re-map will achieve the same result too. Anywhere to get a generic map and see if it can solve this problem? I'm just throwing ideas out to see what can be done to solve this.
