I can only speak from experience of opening a lot of keys, rather that anything more substantial. 156 keys will use one 3v. I have seen some GTV and some 164 keys (both still red and the same external shape) use the two skinny batteries. That is a bit vague but if you have a 156 and the key is red and an original for the car then I`m sure it should be just one 3v battery.
Another check is to look at the circuit board. It is hard to describe but the simplest way is to look in the microswitch. If it has two poles (one solder patch on each side of the switch) then use one 3v battery. If it has four poles (two solder pathes on each side) then it is more ambiguous as some boards use 3v and some 6v, and it is too hard to describe any further (I`m tired and lazy), but I bet you have the first type of switch...
