I discovered a small coolant leak as i was trying to get the bumper off so i fixed that instead. All the panel clips and screws are heavily rusted so i'm gonna order some new ones before i take the bumper off. Time to get the dremel out!!
Sounds like a good idea making the grill removable, it would save you plenty of time in the future
while the bumper is off you will see all the vulnerable parts, in front of both the wheels you have important parts
Drivers side you have you have the oil cooler and pipes, on the passenger side you have the intercooler. now both of these are mounted on hangers/brackets............the quality of these is ltd and prone to rust.
if you imagine the air/water from the front of the car is driven to these points (for cooling) they can be a bit of corrosion. i recently took the inter cooler off to rust treated and hammerited the hanger on this side, it was saveable just ( a lot are knackered). I also cleaned up the oil cooler pipe connectors as these are a common fail and the two pipe are ridiculously expensive (over £100 each)
I also treated/painted the rail that the radiator sits on , oh yeh then i decided to paint the subframe.........why does this always happen.....
Anyway point is while the bumper off get your wirebrush out and consider chucking a bit of hammerite at any dodgy bits u find.
also because you can see through the grills on this bumper more than the original when mine next comes off i am gonna spay any parts behind it black so it looks uniform behind the grills.
When you get chance to take some rear pictures and better ones of the complete front i would appreciate it.might be easier to email,
