156 V6 Clutch Problem

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question - I own a 2001 2.5 V6 156 with 67,000 miles on the clock. I have noticed lately that the clutch has started to mess me about a bit..

When the clutch is depressed - about the last inch (before it hits the floor) is really stiff and will suddenly release with a knock and the pedal will hit the floor. Does anybody know what this could be? It is a slightly similar problem to this post...

...in the fact that if I depress the clutch halfway, release it slowly (not fully releasing it), and then pushing it back into the floor, the pedal is totally smooth, so the pedal only seems to become stiff when the clutch is fully engaged (ie - every gear change)!

Hope someone can help as it really is an annoying problem!

Many Thanks,

Re: 156 V6 Clutch Problem

Sounds like the slave cylinder. It is on top of the gearbox and no too hard to get to.

Give it a good bleed but it is likely that either the cylinder or it's pushrod are worn.

A new one isn`t expensive (£30-£35ish?) and fitting is a bit awkward but only really an hours job at a specialist.
