Not Happy World record for Alfa unreliability ???

Hi, new to the forum so bear with me.

Picked up my brand new GT Lusso last friday 7th Sept, pleased as punch with it, Stromboli Grey, Red Leather, 18" Alloys, looked fantastic !!!

Unfortunatley my dream was crushed after just 7 miles, yes 7 miles, took a left turn changed down the gearbox 3rd to 2nd, to find I had no gears at all !!!.

Came to a standstill, tried gearbox again nothing !!.

Turned the engine off, all the gears worked. As I was in a bit of a dodgy spot thought I would try to move it a bit, got the car into first and tried to start the car, it lurched forward and died. Unfortunatley this left it stuck in first gear.

Anyway car finally recovered by RAC, stored and then recovered to dealer Tuesday AM. They only got it on the ramp today !! & have started to remove the gearbox, more tomorrow hopefully.

I was expecting a few reliability problems with both the car and dealerships, but not this soon !!!

Will update with what they find tomorrow.

Nightmare.... and to think I recently bought one as my daily commute...

Though from past experience (having driven a TS GTV throughout my UNI days - wish i was still there I might add!) I had no MAJOR issues, ...issues all the same... I sincerely hope they work it out for you!

Re: World record for Alfa unreliability ???

god nightmare or what!

id complain like mad for a new car - the thought of an alfa mechanic taking a 7 mile old gt to bits and trying to piece it all back together...not for me! the thoughts bad enough.

best of luck anyhow - hope it works out - they can last forever - my GTA has ticked 111000 on the original clutch, its just down to how u treat them.

Re: World record for Alfa unreliability ???

Nkbutler’s car was supplied by us at autolusso and we have been helping him getting it sorted with Perry’s of Aylesbury, who tried to say it was not covered by the warranty. Speaking to Nick on Friday he is upset with Perry’s not us. I said to him if Perry’s would not do it under warranty I would fix it my self, and I do mean myself.

Perry’s tried to say it was Nick’s fault, Alfa UK customer service at it’s best?!?

Re: World record for Alfa unreliability ???

The Main Dealers "Technician" reported that no mechanical defect found, fault down to driver error !!!!

Apparantly the clutch plate is down to the rivets and has burnt out and scored the flywheel enough that both need to be replaced !!

Not even Clarkson could burn out a clutch in 7 miles, thrashing something around his track, but I allegedly managed it in 7 miles, what a driver I am !! I explained that the car I had just sold had done over 136K on its original clutch so its not me thats at fault !!

The thing that really sticks in my throat is that they immediately try palming this off as driver error, not as a mechanical failure which it obviously is !!

Anyway they have now had aproval from Alfa UK to do the repair, wonder how long thats going to take ??

Think I will have to ask them to to extend my warranty to cover the time the car is going to spend in the garage.

Autolusso have been very good about this and have been trying to sort this out with main dealer, they even went there to look at the damaged parts and to ask them to be reasonable and get on with the repair. Thanks Ned and your team.

More updates soon.....
