Selespeed - electrics and system pressure
After 2 months of trouble-free operation the selespeed gremlins have struck again.
Symptoms (fluid level OK) - open driver's door, pump whirrs reassuringly, start engine, off we go through the gears into 5th but......as soon as I downshift or, as was the case today, came to a stop sign, gearbox automatically went into 1st - move off and can't select 2nd or any other gear, there is no further activity from the gear box. On coming to a halt the box goes into N.
However, after several hours 'rest', open driver's door, pump whirrs etc, move off but get only as far as 4th and on comes that flashing light unable to shift out of 4th (but managed to get home!).
It seems to me that sufficient head of pressure is accumulating after 'rest' but several gear changes is exhausting system pressure hence the inablity to make any further gear changes. Is the pump active at all times to provide pressure? I put a multimeter on the 'live' at the pump's cable connector and registered only approx 2.5 volts that reduced to ZERO after about 5 secs (with engine running).
Could this be an electrical glitch rather than a fault with the pump?
Any advice or pointers pleeeeeze. I love my Alfa but this is rapidly leading to a potential divorce.
