156 2.5 V6 decat mot question plz help
Right, Ive just bought an alfa 156 2.5 v6, 1998, 72k, it has had an ecu remap, racing air induction kit, "italian" stainless steel exhaust bla de bla,
I havent yet picked the car up,
the guy who I bought it from stated he would put a full mot on the car, however now after conversing with him there appears to be a problem why he is unable to provide me with the full mot:
in his advert he never mentioned the car had been "de-catted", he only referred there was a s/s exhaust, the problem that has arose is this:
the mot is due to expire on 01/11/07, the alfa's stainles steel exhaust has no cat so clearly there is almost no chance of it passing its emmissions test,
this has not put me off the car and I do still intend to go ahead with the purchase but need some advice from any of you in the know.
As far as I am aware the guy does not have the original exhaust "he never mentioned this anyway although I will ask"
I have heard rumours (or maybe old wives tales) that a quarter of a tank of super unleaded and a bottle of redex in the juice can resolve the emmisions issues for the mot, is this the case? or if the mot inspector observes there is no cat will he fail it anyway?
other than finding an mot station that are willing to overlook the emmisions in return for a small bribe or similar (if u know anyone in the wirral/liverpool/surrounding areas please drop me a pm) what can I do?
If I was to purchase a used v6 cat, (available on ebay for £150) could this easily be welded onto the s/s exhaust for mot purposes and later removed if required?
or am I looking at potentially a full exhaust installation?
please please help as I have fallen head over heels with this alfa but I dont want a nightmare come november, and now is the time to barter with the seller should i need to
thanks in advance
