JTD Squeal from Right Side of Engine
I have searched what seems hundreds of posts to try and solve my problem.
On start and for a couple of miles I get a loud squeal from the right hand end of my JTDM 170.
I thought it was the brake pump as it sounded like it cam from there so I swapped this and no joy.
I then noticed a small amount of black smoke and a fumes smell coming from around the EGR heat exchanger on the turbo side. I then tried blanking of the EGR at the turbo outlet manifold by adapting a blanking plate for the EGR in addition to the blanking plate already on the inlet to the EGR (my car is re-mapped and the EGR deleted). The noise still happened so it does not appear to be exhaust gases leaking from the heat exchanger. The noise does go away after a few minutes when full throttle is applied and does not come back until the car has been stopped for a while.
I am now stuck, when the engine is revved does the water flow faster through the cooling pipes and can this noise be generated inside the exchanger? This does not explain the smoke and fumes smell though.
I was going to clamp the two cooling pipes that go in and out of the exchanger as this should not do any damage.
Any suggestions as to what else this could be would be greatly appreciated ( the noise is not from the turbo).
