[QUOTE=t3yls;13355938]I've got 3 tubs of that in my garage at the moment. I change my oil at least twice a year and only do a few thousand miles each year. I would rather change it frequently with cheap oil.[/QUOTE
I have had the oil conversation with several mechs I trust and they all say the same thing..if the specs are right then its going to be fine, I drop the oil and filter every 6k so I would rather half the price of the oil by using whatever is on a deal at the time and half the interval with it.
sometimes its TRIPLE QX which is fine, don't let the oil snobs tell you otherwise..and I have used petronas fully synth 5W40 as well as fuchs, castrol, halfords own ,millers when its on a deal, and I have found NO DIFFERENCE with any of them...
still clattery as bugger at idle same as every JTDM 4 pot I have heard, the only thing that helps that is a touch of 2 stroke in the tank every fill up or get the 2.4 5 cyl!
the key is regular changes to protect turbo and engine, it is the single best thing you can do for your car if you want it to run well for a long time, the oil conversation is largely irrelevant with the JTDM IMO they don't burn oil, what does happen is due to the high compression ratios and the injector pressure on a common rail diesel you DO get contamination of the oil by fuel, so once again its not so important WHAT you use but that you do it often.
The TS, Busso and especially JTS are far more sensitive to oil choice as they use a litre or so every 1000 miles as ''normal'', hence the alfisti obsession with oil.
oh, DO buy a decent filter, Mann or something of similar quality.
