MES can clear the error, but only if the cause of the error has been rectified.
What error is being reported? If it's the 01 ECU error chances are you need a new one. The ECU is mounted on top of the tunnel by your left foot, you could try reseating the cables to the ECU, might get lucky. If a new ECU is needed you need to replace with the same type although there are others compatible, for example if you car has seat airbags you can't replace with an ECU from a car that didn't have seat airbags.
For example my old 156 had airbag 60669250, replaced with the compatible 60675876 and all was fine after clearing the error with FES.
