I have had Eagle F1's on another car which are still the best wet grippers I've ever driven. Similarly I now have some Michelin PS3's on that car, which seem ok, but I rarely drive that nowadays.
There is one problem with the F1's, they aren't available in 215/40 size (well not here in Oz anyway). I could go to 225/40 which will be a 8mm increase in OD, around 1.5% which I'm told is still legal here. Alternatively 245/35 would be the same OD as the current boots, but I would be worried about fouling and the lower profile might turn the car into a harsh beast.
The roads out here in the ex penal colonies aren't the best, in fact that's the reason the guy I bought it from was selling and having made the 700+ Km trip North to where he lived at Mullumbimby to see and buy the car I easily took his point. Shame for him as there are some terrific winding roads, Alfa territory, but potholes you could loose a chieftain tank in!
Anyway, if anyone has any experience with the tyre size issue, then, again, I would very much appreciate the advice. I'm not in a big rush, the current P zeros aren't dead yet, but the family have been brought to the bedside and expect the worse.
Oh BTW, I cocked up the wheel size, they are 18 x 8 not 18 x 7, so a bit wider than standard should fit the wheel ok.
