Advice please-new 156 V6
Just picked up my first Alfa, a beautiful 1998 156 V6. 45,000 miles, pearlescent paint, white multispokes! Yumm. Can't believe how good the handling is (my otyher car is an Elise!).
Two quick questions for the Cognicentti please (i know i can't spell, especially Italian).
1) I've heard the torque is quite low on the 2.5 V6. But it is correct that there really is not much pull at all below 4K rpm?? And then loads of go from 4-7? You really need to work the gearbox to get her going?? Is this normal?
2) when revving on an fully open throttle between 5-7k rpm there is a loud "Phisshhing" noise from (i think) under the bonnet. It's either a normal sound of lots of air being pulled into the motor or lots of air going out the exhaust. I can't tell. Sounds like air escaping under high pressure. Is this normal? Between 5-7k it drowns out the sound of the V6-normal or problem??
Thanks so much for your replies in advance.
