Hi have just joined the Alfa owners club, PLEASE HELP
. I would be v.grateful if any body can give me any advice.
I have recently bought a Alfa 156 and experiencing rapid Coolant loss and Overheating! I am very worried as i have spent most of my money on the Alfa and have limited funds to carry out major wok
Driving home from work , i noticed the temperature gauge rise very quickly to the maximum temp, steam was coming from the bonnet. I turned on the heater to maximum put it on hot, however strangely cold air came out and this made no difference to the temp.
I pulled over into a garage which lucky was about a mile away, after checking under the bonnet everything seamed to look ok. I checked the water level and it was completely empty. So started to put some in as i did a leak emerged from the radiator which quickly emptyed onto the engine.
I put some Radweld which appeared to work so i waited an hour temperature decreased and i attempted to drive home. The heating started to blow out hot air. So things seemed ok.
After about 5 miles the car started to do the same thing, Overheating, i put on the heating Hot air came out but did not decrease the temp!
i called the AA they offered to tow me home and for me to get the vehicle checked as it could be anything.
I have since been taking the train to work £23 a day! Not sure what to do - spoke to a mechanic he has advised replacing rad and quoted £360. I am not sure why he has advised this as rad appear to be OK now.
Car appears to heat up water v quickly and then loses all water as soon as i take the water tank cap off and turn off engine!
Any comment would be most welcome -
