changing radio

Hi I am looking at changing the std radio/CD player in the 147 and fitting a off the shelf unit after fitting a new adaptor fascia plate, has anyone had experience of doing it and do I have to get involved in the Canbus system I am willing to forfeit the steering controls if to complicated. I will by an interface if required for the Canbus if I get steering controls back

Re: changing radio

You can just ditch the canbus connection, it is for security only.

Several head unit manufacturers offer adaptors to get the steering wheel controls going again, but some end up crossing the button functions....

Most units just work off the ISO plugs, but with some you need to invert the permananent and switched positives for some reason.
