Picked up my new 147 Lusso today, 2.0l TS. Overall I love it; it's the most fun I've had in a car since I got wid of my old BMW 328. I got it for less than I thought it was worth, and for it's age I reckon it's done pretty well (it's an 04 with 98k on it). Cam belt's been done, although I'll want it doing again soon I think, and it's got pretty much a full service history.
Apart from some grubby paint work and a few dings (plus a big scuff on the bumper) it's in very good nick...except the following couple of issues. Any help or advice will be most welcome. I've had Fiats before, but never an Alfa.
1) An issue with the headlights and dash illumination. The brightness seems to 'throb' in time with the engine. It's like a bleedin' strobe light at high revs. My first thought was a dodgy alternator or possibly a tired battery. The battery was replaced (by Halfrauds) in September 2013.
2) I seem to struggle holding temperature. It'll hit normal temp after longer than I'd expect, but then fall and rise repeatedly under normal (and hard) driving. My thinking is that it's the thermostat stuck open. I had a similar issue with an old Volvo 850 which culminated in the thermostat closing and then sticking shut...causing a monumental overheating problem. On the M1. 2 days before Christmas
3) I'm getting a rubbery burning smell from under the bonnet....no idea on this one. No obvious smoke, nothing smacking me in the face.
Aside from those the car drives brilliantly!
