156 Nearside rear light fault, please help

I've recently bought a 2.0 t spark saloon in a rare amazonian green in mint condition bar the usual broken keys and no idea fuel guage.
It's been completely glitch free until this week when the rear nearside brakelight went out. I naturally changed the twin use bulb to discover that the brakelight is now fine but once i've adjusted the bulb and turned my lights off and on again the driving light doesn't come back on.

So I re-adjusted the bulb in the holder, fine turned it off and on again and it doesn't come back on again re-adjust, back on, turn off won't come back on again.

Same story with different brand bulbs, swapping holders and cleaning and tightening the earth strap at the rear.

Can anyone help i'm out of my mind
