I like my GT JTD, I admire my GT, I think it is very competent, reliable, composed and assured, but somehow it lacks a bit of Alfa magic. Maybe its because it is the diesel rather than petrol, somehow the great looks aren't matched by how it goes.
Its a bit like coming home and finding Kelly Brook upstairs in bed, only to find she has a headache.
I owned a JTS GT lusso before my diesel Blackline...
The JTS has some issues around injectors and camshafts so beware.. The economy really is awful as you need to hoof it to get any real power so real world MPG is around the high 20's...on top of this I am doubtful if it puts out the claimed 165 pony's, that said on less than 10k a year mileage its a good choice.
the diesel in comparison pulls like a train in every gear except first (which is short and a bit useless) is torquey as bugger and returns around 50mpg, it feels faster due to the torque and is a better car in every way except the sound.
if you buy one have it re-mapped, transforms the car and makes it a very fun and engaging drive.
in reality the only engine to have if money is of no consequence is the V6 Busso.
both the JTS and JTDm are a compromise, one on sound and the other on performance, economy and potentially reliability.
In keeping with purples analogy the diesel is more like Kelly Brooks Lairy older sister who is an embarrassment in social situations, smokes, sounds like an Eastenders cast member but goes like the clappers and Never has a headache.
does that help?
