A statement has been issued from Downing Street to the effect that earlier this week a Red Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon 2.4JTD belonging to a feller calling himself AlfaLincs, passed its MOT with no work required at a mileage of 54,000.
The only thing that was pointed out was that the handbrake cables at the caliper end were looking a wee bit raggy, but were working fine.
Mr AlfaLincs issued a short statement. "Phew" he said.
But it just passed. Corrossion on rear coil springs and a worn front suspension bush need fixing before next time. Are there any recommendations for where to get rear springs from, and is there a better front suspension bush available now that wil last longer?
Worse than taking an exam. My 33 sportwagon passed (16 years in a row!) Cracked, but not split, CV gaiter to sort out, I have the part already and front suspension bushes to be done before next MOT. Hope I've not jinxed it by mentioning it.
Daughter's Punto failed last year on an orange light not orange enough, but the broken bearings in the rear swinging arm went un-noticed. (Different garage and I only discovered the bearings gone after the MOT).
