Help 156 SW load cover problem

Hi can anyone help?
I have broken retainer bushes on the rear load cover of my 156 Sw. Hence the end cover flies off if I remove the cover bar and the blind will not stay under tension.

I contacted Alfa expecting to be able to buy the bushes as a spare part for a few pounds to find they are not available and the only solution is a whole new rear cover at about £250.

Has any one got a suggestion other than the obvious breakers yard etc and has anyone else had the same problem?

Re: 156 SW load cover problem

Must must have suffered a similar fate under the previous owner - the retaining lugs are broken on each side of the cover, so someone has gracefully put 2 large self-tapping screws in there, the heads of which then act as the retainers. It works (generally) until you hit a pothole, then the thing releases suddenly & frightens the bejaysus out of you as it recoils back!!!

Longer larger self-tappers, I reckon!!! Can't be seen generally anyhow, so no real implications.

Re: 156 SW load cover problem

Get yaself some 8mm wooden dowel from a DIY shop, cut it to length and round the ends a bit, then slide into the hole after removing what's left of the lugs.

Spray it black (just the ends!) first if you're feeling posh...and you can't tell the difference.

Fixed for about £2!
